Let’s face it, Algebra is a tough concept for most of us to grasp but at Delany College, Granville teachers have come up with an afternoon study session to help students in their learning.
‘Algebros’ is an after school drop-in style study session open to all students from Years 7-12 that provides additional support for students with a specific focus on Algebra. Now in its third year, the Algebros program offers students further opportunities to work with a teacher and other students to reinforce concepts from class.
Delany’s Leader of Learning - Mathematics, Kelsey Ortiz said the afternoon study session is beneficial for students, especially those that have younger siblings at home. “It provides them with a quiet place to complete their Maths work,’’ Ms Oritz said.
“As teachers it is rewarding to see student excitement when they understand a topic,” Ms Ortiz said. “We have had a number of students show significant growth in confidence and as a result increase their marks.”
She said the feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive and looks forward to engaging students in further opportunities to develop their understanding and really enjoy Mathematics.
